future of digital healthcare

Digital health care is gradually taking over and is proving to very helpful and the same time beneficial to people. It is definitely the future of the healthcare industry and is welcomed with open arms in every place. It will help patients, doctors and pharmaceutical dealers equally. With the advent of EMR the future looks very bright and the same time beneficial.

EMR or electronic medical records have proved beneficial as it stores a patients' detailed medical information in a database. Information stored in this electronic database has very less probability of getting lost or misinterpreted and can be accessed by an entire network of authorized healthcare services providers. So now you don't have to get a test redone just because you have lost the reports; you can easily access the reports in the database.

Today there are incidents where pharmacists unintentionally provide wrong medication as a result of illegible prescription; well we all know that it is very difficult to decipher a doctor's handwriting. Wrong medication can cause adverse effects on the patient and aggravate his situation or in the worst case it might prove fatal too. EMR is capable of eliminating such mistakes and at the same time make the system more efficient and effective at every level. However, it is very essential that before we can take advantage of the benefits of EMR, this system should be implemented on a large, national scale.

EMR's work on special software and hardware. The full benefits can only be exploited when the records and reports are accessible from a variety of terminals. Medical data is stored in a coded language at various locations which can pose problems in sharing them across different platforms. The US government has been working hard in this regard and encouraging development in this area. It has taken measures that would bring about significant improvement in interoperability of EMR's. Recently, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT and The Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services have made certain specific proposals which will help in setting improved standards for electronic health technology. The government also realizes that with the advent of EMRs and its widespread use, great improvements can be made in the quality of healthcare. Moreover, the care and safety of patients will be more advanced with the optimal implementation of EMR's. Thus, with all these advanced technology the future of digital healthcare looks bright.
